Does anybody know of a DVI to RTF (Rich Text Format) convertor program? >From a quick look at the Microsoft application note which defines RTF version 1.0, it looks as though it should be possible. Don Ward ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 May 1993 16:16:57 -0500 From: Don Ward , don@careful.co.uk Subject: LaTeX to RTF? Can anybody suggest an easy(ish) way of converting a LaTeX document to Microsoft Word Rich Text Format file? (Don't ask *why* I want to do this, I don't: Somebody else wants me to convert a very large document from LaTeX to Word. IMHO they should get LaTeX on the PC.) Any hints gratefully received. Using a tabular > environment is too clumsy for this. Whereas using a description > environment may not allow one to adjust the spacing between the left > and right blocks. Is there any 'clean' way to do this? Try: : \documentstlye{artile} : : \begin{document} : : \begin{tabular}{r@{--}lp{3.75in}} : 1987 & 90 & Something here that may extend for several lines but would : like to have this block on the right typeset and fully left and : right justified. \\ : \end{tabular} : : \end{document} According to the LaTeX Book (I dont have a copy in the office, so I cant refer you to the page) the tabular environment will take the argument p{width} and produce a paragraph of width in the column. Using EmTeX the above file comes out as: 1987--90 Something here that may extend for several lines but would like to have this block on the right typeset and fully left and right justified. [TEX-ARCHIVE.BIBLIOGRAPHY.BIBTEX.STYLES.CONTRIB] CHICAGO.BST CHICAGOA.BST CHICAGO.STY Alternativly you could try the AuthorDate style option: [TEX-ARCHIVE.BIBLIOGRAPHY.BIBTEX.STYLES.CONTRIB] AUTHORDATE.README AUTHORDATE1-4.STY AUTHORDATE1.BST AUTHORDATE2.BST AUTHORDATE3.BST AUTHORDATE4.BST AUTHORDATE1.LTX AUTHORDATE2.LTX AUTHORDATE3.LTX AUTHORDATE4.LTX Peter J Knaggs Computing Science, University of Paisley, pjk @ cs.paisley.ac.uk High Street, Paisley, Scotland. 041 848 3545 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 May 1993 09:50:32 +0100 From: dave.webb@uk.orgn.aea Subject: TeX etc. for OpenVMS AXP Are any plans a-foot to port TeX etc. to the DEC Alpha OpenVMS AXP platform? If not, I shall be attempting a port using DECmigrate to translate the executables. The proper way would be to re-compile the TANGLE output using Pascal for AXP (re-TANGLing should not be necessary). The assembly language part of METAFONT would probably succumb to MACRO-32 AXP. However as no-one here uses Pascal we are not going to buy it. Dave Webb. (Internet: dave.webb@aea.orgn.uk) ------------------------------ Date: 24 May 1993 15:01:05 +0000 From: spqr@uk.ac.york.minster Subject: `rotating' package for LaTeX, new release David Carlisle has taken the trouble to investigate and correct some problems with my `rotating' package, and a new version (1.7) is therefore available in the CTAN archives (eg ftp.tex.ac.uk:pub/archive/macros/latex/contrib/rotating). Many thanks to David for his thorough look! Visible changes: 1) rotate and turn and sideways all now use \ignorespaces and \unskip to remove white space after the environment start 2) rotate and turn no longer have an extra space if the argument is a count register \newcount\xxx \xxx=45 \rotate{\xxx} 3) the \rotatedirection command is added: \rotatedirection{anticlockwise} makes rotate and turn rotate things in the positive direction if given a positive argument (actually any argument does this except \rotatedirection{clockwise}. Sebastian Rahtz ------------------------------ Date: 26 May 1993 14:04:26 +0000 From: spqr@uk.ac.york.minster Subject: postscript font .pk files in emTeX .fli form Ganesh Thiagarajan and Anthony Venson (gany@rtpc01.eng.lsu.edu and andy@rtpc01.eng.lsu.edu) have taken the time and trouble to repackage for emTeX the .pk versions of common PostScript fonts which Karl Berry put together using GNU font ultilities. These let you preview documents which use PS fonts. Ganesh and Anthony have documented this, and provided a revised lj.cnf file etc. The files are stored on ftp.tex.ac.uk in pub/archive/systems/msdos/emtex/psfonts, and will propagate thence to other CTAN hosts. sebastian rahtz ------------------------------ Date: 20 May 1993 12:10:47 +0000 From: spqr@uk.ac.york.minster Subject: UK TeX Users Group - AGM - Call for Papers - Front-Ends for TeX At the annual general meeting of the UK TeX Users Group on October 20th at Aston, the main part of the day will be spent discussing "Front-Ends to TeX". We already have some interesting topics lined up, but I would like to invite others to contribute. I'm interested in short or long contributions on topics such as: - shells for TeX - WYSIWYG programs which use TeX as their underlying engine - conversion tools between TeX and word-processing programs - equation and picture editors which use TeX - hypertext systems which use TeX or dvi formats Please contact me direct if you have something to say in this area, and we can discuss details. Papers may be published in Baskerville. Sebastian Rahtz Programme Organiser, UKTUG 1993 AGM ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 May 1993 16:34:14 -0500 From: akt150%au.edu.anu.cscgpo@uk.ac.nsfnet-relay Subject: OzTeX 1.5 OzTeX 1.5 is now available at the following ftp sites: rsphysse.anu.edu.au in pub/oztex/newoztex ftp.tex.ac.uk in pub/archive/systems/mac/oztex (It should also be at midway.uchicago.edu in about a week.) There's a lot of changes in version 1.5; here are the most significant ones: - - OzTeX now has a "big" TeX (32 bit halfwords). The values of mem_max, mem_top, pool_size and font_mem_size can all exceed 64K. Other TeX parameter limits have also been increased. - - Multiple folders for TeX input files and TFM files are allowed. - - OzTeX supports all types of printers (not just PostScript printers). - - Non-resident PostScript font files can be downloaded on demand. - - OzTeX supports background printing and typesetting. - - New keyboard short cuts make it easier to proofread a DVI file. (E.g., you can hit the space bar to scroll forwards through a document.) - - The "OzTeX User Guide" has been updated and expanded. - - OzTeX is now shareware. The shareware fee is AUS$30 for an individual and AUS$150 for a group (US$30 and US$150 for people or groups outside Australia.) Both fees are one-time-only payments, covering this release and all future versions. The group fee covers all members of a user group, university, company, etc. All earlier versions remain freeware. More info about the shareware fee is in OzTeX's Help menu.
