Can anybody point me in the direction of a LaTeX style file suitable for doing complete conference proceedings? (i.e. not just an individual paper for a proceedings, like proceed.sty) Thanks Graham White ------------------------------ Date: 27 Apr 1993 13:30:34 -0000 From: Mike Piff Subject: endash and minus We all, as good TeXthetes, know about number ranges like 8--16, hyphens---as in auto-hyphenation---and of course emdash. We also know about minus numbers, and to type $-$5 or $-5$ and not - -5, which looks plain silly. But what on earth are we supposed to do when two of these things are adjacent? The text $-5$--$-3$ looks ridiculous as a way of describing a range of lines on a page, say, where there is an error. But why does it look ridiculous? And what to do about it? To me, $-5$---$-3$ looks slightly preferable, but leaving some space before the second minus sign (and after the 5??) creates an inconsistency of style too --- unless you habitually do this! $-5\cdots-3$ is mathematically incorrect, so perhaps only $-5\ldots-3$ remains for a range of negative numbers, again inconsistent with the positive case. However, recently when I try to print one of my files which contains 20 .PCX graphics files (one .PCX file per page 121136 bytes each) using the usual command PRTHPLJ myfile The pringing goes well up to the 11th page then an error message of FATAL ERROR 2000: out of memory encountered and the printing aborted. My computer is a 486DX33 4mb ram and my printer is HP Laserjet II with 2.5 mb memory. I would be most grateful if you could help me with this problem. This is an extract from the emTeX help file: 2000: out of memory There is not enough memory to run. Further information is given showing how much memory was used by what. In some cases, this error can be prevented by using +font-load-limit:-1. Ask him for the further information. Does he have EMS or XMS memory on his system? How much? How long is a piece of string? He could always try printing in two passes: pages 1--10, then 11--20. On reading the Unix manpage there is reference to Adobe's Garamond which has ``more characters internally than you can access directly'' and goes on to explain how to get access.
